Terms of Service

Gauge Money · Version 2026-08-21 · Effective 21 August 2026

1. Agreement

Gauge Money (“the app”) is operated by Ismaeel Ibrahim (“we”, “us”). By creating an account or using the app you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

You must accept these Terms and the Privacy Policy before you can use the app. We ask again if either document changes materially.

2. What Gauge Money is, and is not

Gauge Money is a personal budgeting and expense-tracking tool. It records money you tell it about, imports transactions from services you explicitly connect, and produces summaries, forecasts and suggestions.

It is NOT a bank, a money transmitter, an investment service, an accounting system of record, or a tax tool. It does not hold, move or invest your money.

Nothing in the app is financial, investment, legal or tax advice. The “AI Coach”, forecasts, budgets and insights are automated estimates generated from the data available to the app. They can be wrong, incomplete, or based on transactions that were mis-categorised or never imported. Decisions you make about your money are yours alone. For advice about your situation, speak to a qualified professional.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to use Gauge Money. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may only use it with the involvement of a parent or guardian.

The app is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.

4. Your account

Accounts are created through Google Sign-In or Sign in with Apple. You are responsible for keeping access to that provider account secure; anyone who can sign in as you can see and change everything in your Gauge Money account.

Sessions expire after 7 days, after which you sign in again. You can sign out at any time, which invalidates that session immediately.

You may delete your account from within the app at any time. See section 8.

5. Acceptable use

Use the app for your own personal finances. Do not:

We may suspend or terminate access that breaches this section.

6. Your data and connected services

Your financial data remains yours. We claim no ownership of what you enter or import. We process it to run the app, as described in the Privacy Policy.

Connecting Gmail, iCloud Mail, Outlook or a bank through Plaid is entirely optional and separate from signing in. Each connection is initiated by you and can be disconnected by you. When you connect a service, that provider’s own terms and privacy policy also apply to their handling of your data.

Some features send your financial figures to third-party AI providers to generate a response. If you are not comfortable with that, do not use the AI Coach or the automatic categorisation features.

7. Availability, and what it does not promise

Gauge Money is a personal project, not a commercial service with an uptime guarantee. The backend runs on self-hosted hardware. It can and does go offline, for reboots, maintenance, network changes, or because the machine is simply switched off.

There is no service level agreement, no guaranteed backup schedule, and no promise that data will be recoverable if hardware fails. Export or keep your own records of anything you cannot afford to lose.

We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the app at any time.

8. Ending your use

You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete account. Deletion is immediate and irreversible: it removes your profile, expenses, income, budgets, goals, insights, connected-service tokens and sessions from the live database.

We may terminate accounts that breach these Terms, or if we stop operating the service. Where practical we will give notice first.

9. Disclaimers and liability

The app is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or uninterrupted availability.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or financial decisions made in reliance on the app’s output.

Nothing here excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, including, where applicable, liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

10. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. When a change is material, the version identifier changes and you will be asked to accept the new version the next time you open the app. Continuing to use the app after accepting means you agree to the updated Terms.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Where you are a consumer, you keep the benefit of any mandatory protections of the law of your own country of residence, and may bring proceedings there.
